Notes for Capt. Ebenezer Bothwell
Ebenezer Bothwell was a cotton planter and member of House of Representatives, Jefferson Co, in 1817.
According to "The History of Lee County Georgia" Captain Ebenezer Bothwell was in command of Fort Early on the Flint River in 1818 but other sources put the date at 1813, during the war of 1812.
He was town commissioner of Louisville, 1827 ( History of St. George's Parish, by Marion Little Durden, Magnolia Press, Swainsboro, Ga 1983)
Old records found in the old Capitol building also show Ebenezer being appointed trustee for Louisville Academy in 1827.
In 1850 census, Mary and Ebbin are listed as being 58 years of age and owning land valued at $4000. ( p.156 in Jefferson Co., GA).
Moved from Jefferson County to Dooly County in 1850s, apparently after his wife's death (two of his sons, William C. and David J. were located in Dooly County during that time).
Will dated March 1868 was made in Richmond Co., Georgia. This will names son James T. Bothwell as executor and leaves property of lands and notes to benefit sons James T. Bothwell, Samuel E. Bothwell, David J. Bothwell and the sons of son William C. Bothwell.
Found burial marker on private land (now a tree farm, owned by Mennonites) "Bothwell cemetery" on Bothwell Road just outside (north) of Louisville,Jefferson County. This headstone gives his birth and death date. There were two other markers in this burial place, they were buried almost to the top- names or dates could not be seen.
Ebenezer received title to land in Chattahooche Co., GA, on April 11, 1860, from D.E. Bothwell.
Ebenezer owned 8 slaves in 1820 census.

Notes for David John (Child 1)
Dr. David John Bothwell was member of Convention 1850 from Dooly Co, Ga., Senator for 14th Distr. 1861-63. He lived in Dooly Co, on what is now called Powell-Clegg. Later moved to Augusta and was in business with his brothers James T. and Samuel E.
In 1850 census slave schedule, he is listed as owning 21 slaves ranging in age from 6 to 40.

Notes for William Clements (Child 3)
Buried in Hooks Cemetery, Montezuma, Macon Co, GA. The masonic emblem is on his gravestone. He was a mason like his father Ebenezer and his grandfather Dr. David Bothwell who was sent to Louisville, Ga by the Monaghan Ireland Presbytery in 1790 to minister to their members in the newly settled colony and who preached in front of the first assembly of the Georgia legislature when Louisville was made the capital.
"The Southern Recorder", a newspaper published in Milledgeville, Georgia, listed William C. Bothwell of Vienna, Georgia, among physicians graduated from Augusta Medical College in the class of 1843. According to the medical daybooks and ledgers left by him (in possession of Jane Mitchell, Camilla, Mitchell Co, Ga a direct descendent) , he lived and treated people in Jefferson, Dooly, Marion, and Lee counties." History of Lee Co., Georgia, page 294.

Samuel Bothwell was a cotton broker and lived in Savannah, with his business on Bell Street.
Later moved to Augusta to be in business with his brothers. Buried in Magnolia Cemetery, Augusta, GA.
