Notes for Herman Baker
Herman and Henrietta Baker (Becker) came to U.S. in 1874 on the R.M.S. Alyssinias from Liverpool with their children.
From Erna Ramsey, widow of William Ramsey, grandson of Herman and Henrietta (1983) the following information:
In 1911, Erna moved onto the Ramsey family farm near Persia, IA. At that time Herman and Henrietta Baker were staying there for a short time. Anna and Jud Ramsey had shipped cattle, belongings, etc. via railroad to Dakota to begin farming there. Herman and Henrietta had sold their house in Portsmouth and were going to join the Ramseys in Dakot shortly - which they did. Erna remembers Henrietta as very difficult to get along with and Herman as a very quiet and gentle mannered man.
Erna believed they were both buried in a small country cemetery. She also thought they came from a town "Keln" along the Rhine River in Germany.
