There are two John Lindsays in the 1840 US Census for North Carolina, one in Orange Co., the other in Rockingham Co..
The one in Orange Co. looks more like the family structure... Additionally, there is an older Alvis Lindsay on the same enumeration page with a male that might be Archibald's age. Archibald is missing, however.
