Educated at the Toronto School of Art, the Toronto Conservatory of Music, and in Salzburg, Austria, she was a soprano who performed in Holland, Switzerland, Austria, France, England, and throughtout the United States. She was the only internationally recognized Liedersinger born and trained in North America. She appeared on BBC radio and had her own show, “The Mary Bothwell Show” in New York City.

She also as an accomplished painter with her work in flower paintings exhibited in the Swiss paviloions at World Fairs and a variety of universiteis and galleries in the United States.

Was president of the Canadian Women’s Club in New York and was active in a scholarship fund for promising young Canadian artists.

For seven consecutive years she was named one of America’s “best hatted” women and was elected to the “hat wearers” hall of fame due to her passion for hats and her large collection thereof.

She also collected toy elephants and had more than 1,000 in her collection.
