Passenger on the Canadian Royal Mail Ship the SS Lady Hawkins, sunk by U-66 off the coast of South Carolina, about 150 miles e. of Cape Hatteras, en route from Montreal to Bermuda at 7:43 am on Jan. 19, 1942. A total of 251 peop[le died as a result of the attack. There were 71 survivors, including 49 passengers. One of the survivors, Percy Kelley, was promoted to captain Master of the SS Lady Drake, which was sunk by another U-Boat just five months later. He also survived that sinking.
