Her will was contested and went to the state supreme court. She had left $1 each to her relatives and the bulk of the estate to a real estate dealer (J.D. Huffines), who was alleged to have traded extensively in her properties. In her will, she left the bulk of her estate to him “In consideration of his kindness to me in looking after my interests and caring for my business in the last days of my life.”
A jury originally set aside the will in 1913 and it was appealed to the 10th & 11th Judicial Districts. There were 39 appeals from those hearing, which went to the state supreme court in 1915. The supreme court upheld the trial court verdict that overturned the will. The value of the estate was reported to be about $3,000.
Imigrated at 14 & settled in columbus, Ohio.
She was 33 when married to Spaulding, who died when she was about 48. A widow for 13 years, she married Rawlins at age (about) 61 in NC.
Given Spalding died in 1890, she would have married Rawlins in about 1903.
