From a letter I received from Joanne McRoberts on 2/17/2000:
".......... starting at page 2 paragraph 2

Alice born 1876 - died 1912 at the age of 36. Nina died at the age of 18. She had something lacing in her system and ate lead. Died of cancer. Edna (Vera Wenzel's mother) Dave, Earl, Ernest and Vera (Bird).
The times were very hard then too. Great, Grandpa worked in the woods and he farmed. He was gon much of the time. He was not very well, and early in the Spring they would float the logs down the river. When they jammed, the men would have to get out and break them loose. It was very cold and wet and great Grandpa got rheumatism and was very will. They kept him in Chippewa Falls to be near the Doctors and Grandma took care of him. He died in the Spring of 1898. He is buried in Chippewa. Great Grandma was on the farm and couldn't get down to see him. She was alone with the rest of the children and was pregnant with her last child. It wa April, cold, rain and snow. They brought her to the funeral in horse and buggy. By the time they arrived the funeral was half over.
In july, Vera was born (that's Bird). After Grandpa was dead. He was 55 years old. Dave was about 15 and got to work on the farm. Alice and Edna (Alice is my Grandma & Edna is Vera's Mother) worked in Chippewa at the State Home. They could not help her much. She got a hired man and tried to farm. That was not successful. She sold part of the farm (Art Gilbert's father's farm). Finally Dave took over the rest of the far
My Grandmother, Alice and Edna (Vera's mother) went to Duluth to work. There Alice met and married Will McRoberts in about 1902. He was a carpenter and wnet on jobs all over the county. She went with him as much as she could. She came back to Great Grandmas from where you Grandfather and where my Aunt Edna was born in 1903. Then they went to Panama where they were building the Canal and Grandpa Will McRoberts worked on the Hospital there. There was much tropical disease and the men worked so hard to finish the Hospital that they received medals from the Government. Grandpa Will had one.
Then they came back to Chippewa and Bill was born in 1907. They went to Alabama where Grandma could get a housekeeper for .50 a day, but no milk for the baby. She came back here. Claire was born in 1909.
Our Grandfather's next move was to take a homestead in British Columbia. Our Grandmother went to Coeur D Alene, Idaho and lived while they built a small house on the claim. By then it was fall, but she went to Canada anyway and they stayed in Basano, a small town nearest the homestead. She was so tired of moving by then that Edna (Vera Wenzel's Mother) put her on the trail at St. Paul to go West. She said, "I will settle down on the homestead and this will be my last move". (And it was) "Now I will not leave it again".
In July 1911, they traveled to Kaslo, B.C. where your fatrher (Kaslo-Casey) was born. They worked very hard on the claim. They hauled water from the nearest neighbor 10 miles away, but finally got their well dug and were getting along pretty good. Then Grandma Alice was trying to do something to her window up on a ladder and got dizzy and fell. They took her into the city and found out she had Typhoid Fever. The neighbors had the childern and Claire got sick. They took him to the hospital and he had it too. Their Grandma died in August of 1912. She was brought bac by Grandpa and is buried in Chippewa Falls. She was 36 years old. She was run down and because Bill was sick. Then she had a baby and she worked right along with her husband on the homestead. She never wa very stron in the first place.
Will McRoberts Grandfather had been married before and had three half grown daughters. They were Nell, Margie and Sadie. Sadie went West with them and stayed there and married an Englishman. Aunt Elvira, your great grandma's sister had married a man from Main by the name of George Oliver, and moved to Couer D' Alene, Idaho and he went up to Canada and brought the four children back to their home. Uncle John and Aunt Mary (that's Great Grandma's brother) took Claire because he was not well for sometime. Aunt Vira kept the other three until late fall. My mohter went out and rented a small house and kept Edna and Bill with us for the Winter. We went home in the Spring and left the kids there so that Great Grandma Mitchell would get them. She had made a promise to our Grandfather that she would bring them back there and raise them. Ma (Edna) could have brought them, but they thought it was a good chance for Great Grandma to see her sisters, brother and father again. This was good because she never saw her sister Addie and Eliza or her father again. He died a couple of years after and was buried out there.
Your Grandfather Will came back to Casey's house to live in Chippewa on Greenville Street.
Vera went to school out there and stayed a few summers on the farm (Town of Cleveland).
Great Grandma Matchell died in 1939 and is buried in the town of Cleveland.
Great Grandma Maggie was 5"2" and weight 100 lbs. and boy did she have a temper. The blackest eyes you had ever seem. "
