In the 1825 Census of Wickham, Quebec, Canada, Alexander was the head of a household of 11 persons: 1 under 6; 3 between 6 and 14; 2 between 14 and 18; 2 unmarried males between 18 and 25; 1 married man between 40 and 60; 1 female under age 14; 1 unmarried female between 14 and 45; 1 married female over 45 (it adds up to 12).

1831 census: 11 in household; unmarried males 14-18, 1; unmarried males 18-21, 2; unmarried males 21-30, 3; Married males 21-30, 1; unmarried males 21-30, 1; unmarried females 14-45, 1; married females 45 and above, 1; unmarried females 45 and above, 1.
Notes for James (Child 1)
At the first meeting of the Durham town council on July 24, 1845, John Bothwell was named Mayor and James Bothwell was Secretary-Treasurer. In 1853, Durham township was divided into two municipalities, No. 1 and No. 2. No. 2 was named the Village of L’Avenir and James Bothwell was elected its first Secretary-Treasurer on Oct. 15, 1853.1284

In Dec., 1857, he was named a director of Le Institut des Artisans et Association Bibliophile du Comte de Drummond.
