Notes for John Root
Notes taken from ROOT--Genealogical Records, 1600-1870, compiled by James Pierce Root, 1870. Found in WFT Vol 3, #3876.
The town of Badby, the home of John Roote in Northamptonshire, England was "a village of about 86 houses, exclusive of innships, the Court House, Roots-house, and Burchill-house." At the time that John Roote and Thomas Roote, of Hartford and Northampton, emigrated from Badby, Charles I was king of England. This was about the time that civil war was brewing in England--about 1637.
Notes for Mary Anne Russel
WFT Vol 3, #3876 tooks these notes from DIRECTORY OF ANCESTRAL HEADS OF NEW ENGLAND FAMILIES, 1620-1700, compiled by Frank R. Holmes, 1980.
RUSSELL--From the French signifying reddish, carrot colored hair. The ancestry of the family has been traced to Sigurd Hring Turstain, King of Sweden, 735. A 13th generation descendent of Turstain, William Bertrand and his son Hugh were at the battle of Hastings. Hugh inherited the castle of Rozel in England. Bertrand was corrupted to Russell in the 12th century.
Notes for Thomas (Child 1)
Came to America in 1637.
