Date of birth according to one source was April 20, 1858. His death certificate, however, lists the date as March 22, 1858, as does a hand-written entry in the family bible
On April 27, 1883, David purchased the E. 1/2 NE 1/4 of Section 23 of Glengary Township, Fillmore Co., NE, from the Burlington Railroad.
In 1890/91 Nebraska Business Gazette, listed as proprieter of a cigar and tobacco business in Tobias, Saline Co., NE.
In 1900 resided in Tobias, Saline Co., NE. According to his death certificate, he had resided at 2163 Arapahoe Street for 10 years and had moved to Denver about 1902. The post obituary of 6/13/1915 says he had been a resident of Colorado for 12 years.
David was the owner of the Bothwell Syrup Co., Denver.
In 1911, Denver city directory listed a company, Bothwell & Rawlings, milliners, at 773 Jason. In 1914 directory, Mary A. Bothwell, widow of Robert, is listed as a milliner at Wilbur Suit Co., unknown if there is any relationship.
The Syrup company was still listed in the business directory for Denver in 1920 and again in 1921.In 1906, William D. Bothwell was listed as general manger of the Greeley Starch & Potato Co.
In 1920 The R.L. Polk Directory Co.'s Colorado Springs and Manitou city directory listed Harvey S. Lockwood as manufacturer of Bothwells Table Syrup.
In one 1903 city directory for denver, David is listed along with J.S. as Bothwell Brothers, grocers and there were individual entries for David, Jeremiah W. and also for Jeremiah W. Jr, a clerk at Bothwell brothers, along with an Edward Bothwell, clerk.
Belonged to the Ancient Order of United Workmen at Tobias. Was recorder of the lodge at one point.

1903 Denver City Directory listed residence as 324 23rd Street. and listed him and his brother, Jeremiah, as proprietors of Bothwell Brothers Grocers at 1760 Curtis.
Jeremiah listed in the directory as living at the same address as David.
Clerks in the grocery were listed as Edward and Jeremiah w. Jr., both residing at David’s address.
In 1891, he bought toehold People’s bank building and moved his stock of confectionery into it.
Notes for Estella Julia “Stella” McManus
The Denver Post reported she died of a broken heart on June 19, 1915, having collapsed shortly after her husband's death on June 11.
Note: Death certificate lists date of birth as Aug. 18, 1863, other records, including the mariage license and federal censii, indicate actual date was Aug. 18, 1861, which also is the date listed in the family bible.

According to his sister, Fern, Clarence was a trainman. The engine blew up and his lungs were scalded, contributing to the cause of his death, about 2 years after the accident, from pulmory tuberculosis.
