Notes for Alexander Bothwell 4th
Alexander left Salem by ox sled in 1797 at age 24 for Genoa, NY. Trip took 3 weeks. He bought 50 acres in Genoa from John Bowker. Alexander was a farmer.
Arrived on foot in Cayuga Co., NY, in 1793 from Salem, Washington Co., NY, and settled one mile east of East Genoa. Accompanied by his future brother-in-law, James Wilson.
Notes for Martha Wilson
Residing with her widowed daughter, Mary Sharpsteen, and her grandson, Alexander Sharpsteen, 11, in 1850.
Notes for James (Child 1)
After James’ death, Eliza Hilyard and their two children, Glen 3 and Francis, had gone to live with her father and mother, Jacob and Catherine Hilyard who also farmed in the Genoa area. Presumably the older children continued James' farming operation which was probably substantial based on his reported worth of $12,000--a large estate in 1850.
Notes for Mary W. (Child 2)
Enumerated with her in 1860 were her mother, Martha, 88, and Ruth A. Sharpsteen, 18.
Notes for Robert (Child 3)
There was a Robert Bothwell who was a member of Ogdensburgh Lodge No. 128 in Ogdensburgh, St,. Lawrence Co., NY, in 1855. Not certain if this is the same person.
Notes for Jane (Child 5)
According to the History of Cayuga Co., NY, only Alexander, Lewis, Robert, and Mary were still alive in 1879.
Notes for Lewis (Child 6)
In 1870, Lewis was enumerated on the farm of William and Mary Thompson of Cayuga Co., NY.
In 1880, Lewis and his sister, Mary, were living with the family of Wilbur Sharpsteen in Cayua Co., NY.
