Alexander left Salem by ox sled in 1797 at age 24 for Genoa, NY. Trip took 3 weeks. He bought 50 acres in Genoa from John Bowker. Alexander was a farmer.

Arrived on foot in Cayuga Co., NY, in 1793 from Salem, Washington Co., NY, and settled one mile east of East Genoa. Accompanied by his future brother-in-law, James Wilson.
