Notes for Alexander Bothwell Jr.
One of the first 10 settlers of Oakham, became one of the largest land owners in Oakham and also owned the grist mill and in 1758 became a licensed innholder of the town. He arrived with his infant brother, Elijah, and his father, Alexander St., in Boston in November, 1719, aboard a ship (captain Dennis) carrying a group of Presbyterian emigrants from Co. Tyrone, Ireland.
Most of Alexander’s children appear in the birth records in Oahkham, with four of them showing as baptised in Rutland.

Served as 2nd Lt. Lt., Capt. Crawford’s Co., Col. James Converse’s Rgt, Massachusetts Line at Lexington April 19, 1775. Officers in the unit were elected. Later a 1st Lt. of the Oakham Co, of the 4th Worcester County Regiment.

Private in the company under the command of Capt. Crawford which marched to Lexington on the alarm of April 19, 1775. Corporal for two months in 1776 under Lt. Asa French at Dobbs Ferry, Tarrytown and North Castle. Went as corporal in the Oakham company on the alarm in Rhode Island on July 23, 1777. Served six months in Rhode Island in 1777.
Notes for John (Child 5)
John was one of the Oakham militiamen who marched with Capt. John Crawford on April 19, 1775 in response to the alarm at Lexington. In 1776 he served 3 months in New York state. He was a member of Capt. Crawford's company which marched in 1777 on the Rhode Island and Bennington alarms and of Capt. Cutler's company of volunteers sent Sept. 24, 1777 to join General Gates at the Northward.
